Youth Coaching

Challenges of Growing Up

Growing up from childhood to adulthood can present many challenges.
In both my practice and surroundings, I frequently encounter the voices of youth struggling with various difficulties. These challenges range from serious issues affecting multiple facets of their life, to minor obstacles in one or a few facets. Regardless of the form, these challenges can negatively impact a young person's life experience and overall happiness.

Statistics indicate that 1 in 5 young people suffer from mental and emotional problems.

Common issues include mood disorders such as depression and anxiety, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorders, eating disorders, PTSD, tics, and trauma. Additionally, more subtle problems like mild anxiety, self-rejection, high sensitivity, difficulties with school or friendships, and the absence of a parent are also prevalent. When young people feel unheard or unseen, they sometimes develop destructive coping mechanisms. This can manifest as defiance toward people or structures, substance use, difficulty with social integration, underachievement, or self-effacement.

Addressing their problems early can help young people avoid unnecessary years of trial and error, allowing them to feel safe and find their place sooner. By paying attention to their issues early on, they can find inner peace, make better academic choices, and become more aware of their boundaries.

Intake Session: The First Step

During our meetings, I create a safe and supportive environment for both parents and young people to explore, learn, and grow from their situation. The first session is a free, non-binding introduction. This conversation lasts about 30 to 45 minutes and can take place in person or over the phone. Based on this, we determine the next steps together.

My approach is holistic and considers all aspects surrounding the family and the child. We discuss where the challenges lie, what support is already in place, and where parents and the child may be lacking clarity.

Depending on the situation, it may be valuable to start with a conversation with the parents or guardian. This helps build trust in my approach and gain insights. In other cases, we begin directly with the child. Parents can be involved in the initial sessions if desired. Later on, it may be beneficial for the young person to speak freely without parental presence.

For Young People: What to Expect

In our initial sessions, we will explore the underlying issues and their causes.

We start by gaining a clear understanding of who you are—your strengths, challenges, and motivations. From there, we identify any mental, emotional, and energetic blockages you may be experiencing. Together, we'll explore the changes needed to relieve these blockages and restore balance to your life.

We'll set personalized goals and assess the tools you already possess to reach them. I believe that everyone has inherent resources, and my role is to help you tap into these through conversation, exercises or gentle hypnosis. Each step of the coaching process will be taken with your full involvement and consent.

For follow-up sessions, we will make arrangements and, if desired, develop a tailored plan. I utilize various methods depending on your individual needs (see:
"Private Sessions" or "About Me" for more details). We can either address specific issues in a few focused sessions that all include healing or embark on a comprehensive exploration in a series of sessions. The latter approach involves a thorough examination of all aspects of your life, detailed analysis of problems or challenges, and collaborative development of solutions suited to your unique situation.

Throughout our work together, you will receive support for (energetic) healing and practical tools to integrate into your daily life. I will share my knowledge, customized to your needs and stage of life, with the goal of enhancing your self-awareness. Occasionally, I may provide information or assignments to take home, which we will review in the next session.

What to Expect After the Session(s)?

  • During our sessions, we will explore as deeply and extensively as you are ready and willing to go at that moment. This approach ensures that the sessions remain manageable and supportive, preventing (unnecessary) prolonged recovery periods.
  • The impact of a session can can vary from person to person and from session to session.
  • It is advisable to take some time, rest, and space after a session to reflect on what was discussed.
  • A session often continues to have effects for weeks, and sometimes even months, before it is fully integrated.
  • Often, you may experience a sense of lightness and notice that you respond more positively to previously challenging situations or feel generally more uplifted.
  • A lasting shift in consciousness is always the case.

With each new session, you’ll likely find that pieces of the puzzle start to fall into place, leading to greater clarity and calmness.

I provide personalized advice on the frequency of sessions, and together we will create a suitable plan.

Family Dynamics and Involvement

It is highly beneficial when close relatives, such as parents or caregivers, actively participate in the young person's process. Young people often unconsciously reflect the dynamics within their family.

During coaching, I also address what I observe in relation to the home environment. By increasing awareness of certain patterns, we can facilitate change. When the family or household aligns with this transformation, the best possible outcome can be achieved.

In some cases, such as family trauma, it may be necessary for parents or caregivers to participate in part of the healing process to ensure the trauma is fully addressed.

If both parents and child attend individual sessions, a discount on the hourly rate can be discussed if desired. Feel free to reach out for the options.
